Obstructed Environmental Flows

There has been great interest in incorporating topics in environmental fluid mechanics that may not necessarily fall under the banner of flows governed by density differences, but are characterized by a stratification of flow, turbulence or mixing. Consequently, the Organising Committee is hoping to include a session on the structure of flows over submerged obstructions (such as vegetation canopies, reefs or complex terrain) at the Symposium.

The topic is deliberately broad so as to identify commonalities within this suite of obstructed flows as well as similarities to density-stratified flows. Naturally, studies of density-stratified, obstructed flows will be especially relevant. We encourage you to submit an abstract (to be sent to ) for this exciting new session. Abstracts are due on the 15th of May 2006 due to this late notice, arrangements can be made if more time is required.
