Project Summary

I commenced my PhD in April 2003. My project will examine the water quality in mine lakes and the role of the sediment-water interface in influencing this quality. More specifically, I aim to examine the link between the groundwater geochemistry, diagenesis and water column buffering in these carbon limited systems. This is to be done through the linking of DYRESM-CAEDYM to a diagenetic model and a geochemical equilibrium model, allowing the analysis of various remediation strategies for these acidic lakes. Collaboration with the UFZ in Germany will allow the use of mine lake data for calibration and validation, and further data will be obtained for two mine lakes located near Collie.
